Since I started this blog nearly 10 years ago, I always stated that I would keep it real. When I was going through a tough break-up, I shared that. Now that I am pregnant, most of my posts will center around the pregnancy. My blog is a diary of my actual life and not a fabricated one.
Hyperemesis aside, there are many pregnancy symptoms that I just did not know about until they sprouted their ugly heads and I figured I would pass on the education.
5 Shocking Pregnancy Symptoms
Excess Saliva
Yup. Sometimes your body produces just TOO much saliva from all the hormones and you have to carry around a spit cup. I refused to carry one around but that excess saliva is no joke. I was swallowing saliva ALL the time and it often changes the taste of my food.
Strange Discharge
Yeah, this may be TMI but this is also jenjeanpiere.com and you know any and everything goes. Typically in your 3rd trimester, you will see an increase in the amount of vaginal discharge but mine started VERY early. It is so bad that pantiliners should be my best friend but I have not been using them enough. There are no abnormalities or infections, it just your body prepping. It always shocked me that even when I was severely dehydrated I managed to have this slightly stinky discharge. EEK!
Runny Nose
I am an allergy sufferer and am used to my nose being clogged up. I was not however prepared for the drip-drip, ever running nose. It would just flow like a river with no warning. I wanted to walk around with tissue inside my nose just to give myself some reprieve from having to frequently blow it. Docs state this is due to increased blood flow to all your mucus membranes.
The Incredible Itch
Even during my 3rd trimester, my body is always itchy. Whether I oil it up, lotion it up or keep it dry and scaly, body parts will ITCH and Jermaine will use a hard bristle brush to scratch my whole body. I know layers of much-needed skin are probably being damaged in the process but that relief is worth it.

Hair, Hair Everywhere
I always heard about the hair on your head growing thicker and more luscious but hair can start to grow EVERYWHERE. My stomach currently looks like the underbelly of a polar bear or something. I am fuzzy wuzzy on my tummy and the texture on my legs went from slightly curly/wavy to STICK straight lol. I am thankful however that the hair did not decide to spring up on my chin or upper lip. That was a fear.
CARPAL FRICKEN TUNNEL
Yeah, I know this is now #6 and I stated it would be 5 but this one needs a mention because it shocked me the most. Yes I have developed carpal tunnel syndrome from pregnancy. My wrists constantly tingle and my fingers feel as if they are arthritic. It can hurt to make a fist and the constant numbness is frustrating.
Are you shocked?
Maybe I just never researched pregnancy so for me these were some of the most shocking pregnancy symptoms. Like why oh why would my wrists be affected by a baby in my darn belly hahhah. Hopefully this small post will help educate and raise awareness for these shocking symptoms that you may experience in the future.
p.s. Should I do a baby update on Instagram Live where you can ask all the questions that you want?
Behind The Photo
I took these photos of myself using my canon eos app on my iPhone. Although I shot a little too underexposed on some. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.
During these photos, I was experiencing some extreme stomach pain but like I always do— pushed through. By the time I was halfway done with these photos, the pain was debilitating and I ended up on my knees. The stomach tightening and lower back pain was not something I was prepared for and I called my doc.
Ended up being a mix of false labor pains although a bit more intense than Braxton-Hicks and really bad gas pains caused by constipation is a pregnancy symptom that also sucks, it’s not one of the shocking pregnancy symptoms but annoying! I’m going on over a week and just cannot GO!

hahahahah does it?
No 2 preggs are the same. I had the spit cup thing (gross), excessive sweating, heartburn. But the worse of them all for me was waking up at 2am from CHARLIES HORSE. I’d be in tears. Thanks for sharing Jen.

Dear heart, thank you for keeping it real. Endometriosis robbed me of being able to conceive, but my Mother would always say, “Pregnancy is HARD on the body and you may have had alot of difficulties if you did get pregnant”. Listening to all you’re going through tell makes me think I just might have punked out😔. You are my SHE-ro. My Warrior…I got MAD respect Sis❣
