A love affair with pizza

I was nearly 7 years old before I had my first slice of pizza. I mean, I was born and spent my first 6 years of life in Haiti where rice, beans, fish, avocados and fried pork  filled my plate. The pizza I had was a slice of pepperoni from Little Caesars and I was hooked. Then I was passed a breadstick and that greasy goodness made my taste buds do the mambo!

When we wanted to get fancy, we would order from a family owned joint called DeLucca’s in Lansing, Michigan. That was delish in every single way and it was my first foray into the land of square pizza.

But… as I got older, pizza became boring to me. It really tasted the same. It was sauce, bread and cheese with the occasional meat or vegetable on it. Whether Pizza Hut or Dominos or even Hungry Howie’s I was bored, bored, bored!

Then I got to college and my sorority sisters introduced me to Giorgio’s pizza in East Lansing and I was hooked. The Baked potato pizza was the absolute most delicious slice I had had in years. It became my late night staple and I would budget for it. At that time it was a 3.25 slice and for a college student that was a pretty penny. Especially when you could get .99 cent slices elsewhere. But that baked potato masterpiece re-ignited my love for pizza.

Two years into college, I stumbled upon the Pizza House. This was a restaurant in Ann Arbor (yuck) that specialized in Chicago deep dish style pizza and ohhhhh wee! All that sauce made me a happy, happy little camper!

Now I live in DC and I hated all the pizza I found here. But then again I don’t find the restaurants that fantastic here either, Baltimore rules for me on that. Well at least the restaurants I can afford in DC are lackluster. I’m sure the other half enjoys quite the delicacy but for my wallet, nahhhhhhh.

Then one day my boyfriend took me to &Pizza. I instantly loved it solely because of the decor. I loved the black and white vibe oh so much and then he explained the custom craft pizza to me and I lost my sh*t!

One thing about me- I love having tons of choices. I hate being limited. From the crust to the finishes you can literally create your own personal pie. I almost always do the meatball (but not now cause Im plant based), and always finish with the fig balsamic!

Last Saturday, the kids, J and I braved the rainy weather to indulge a little. I wore my new Thread Tank spotlighting my love for Michigan, my new fave leather jacket from South Moon Under and some comfy jeans. Frankly I was just excited to be rocking out in some fall gear!

Can we talk a little about my t-shirt? I’m obsessed with it. Its from Thread Tank and its really soft and super high quality. Check them out!

SHOOTING PROCESS

We shot these photos at the &Pizza located in Brookland in Washington DC. After eating our pizza we walked over to Brookland Pint and took outfit shots in the alley close to the bar and Brookland Works complex. We used a 35mm f2 lens that we just got from Amazon. Its actually a Youngnuo that was on sale for 60.00. It regularly retails for 80. Although its most plastic, I havent found any issues yet with the quality. It does shoot a teeny bit softer than the Canon one but for the price it is PERFECT!
