A top dc fashion blogger’s event filled week

Whoo! Washington DC was poppin this past week with events and thanks to invites and being a plus one, I attended as many as I possibly could! But now- I’m POOPED!

But certainly not tired enough to decline the events I have this week. I gave myself 3 months to make Comme Coco more successful and attending events and networking is part of that plan.

Enough about me though. You guys want the deets on my DC Event Filled Week so here it goes….

Monday’s Event { Sip N Paint at the Modern DC}

As a creative, I love any type of event that allows me to use the right side of my brain more. It is great to attend events where looking pretty is usually the goal but ones that allow engagement in a different way are the ones I’m almost always going to say yes to!  I attended this event with Jermaine and we had a ball meeting new people, painting on wine glasses, drinking wine, and seeing the beauty that is the new community, The Modern At Art Place. I really want to live there! Full post on the building coming soon!

Thursday’s Event #1 { Unveiling of Scandal Room at the Watergate Hotel}

Recently the Watergate Hotel had a major face lift and has been THE place to be as far as great events in DC goes. Their event last Thursday kept in form with being spectacular and thanks to Barnette of DC Fashion Fool, I was in attendance. We sipped on Fitz Spritzers and toured the brand new room honoring the infamous Watergate scandal of the early 1970s as well as our fave show, Scandal.

Thursday’s Event #2 { Magnus Event at The Alex Speakeasy, Graham Hotel}

I sure had a blast at this event and learned a thing or two about spirits I always avoided, gin and bourbon. Again, I was Barnette’s plus one and we had an absolute blast. We were taken down to the speak easy under the Graham Hotel in Georgetown and imbibed on Magnus distillery cocktails. I believe the word “Whiskey Novice” was written on my forehead because I was lucky enough to have a tasting and lesson about the various spirits. Now I am more knowledgeable and also more apt to change out my usual vodka drinks for a darker spirit.

Friday’ Event { Embassy of Haiti honors Victor Glemaud, CFDA Fund finalist}

My love for my homeland is real. Oh so real. And my love for my countrymen is even more real. I was thankful to be invited to the Embassy of Haiti to help in honoring and toasting the fabulous Victor Glemaud on his recent accomplishment- being a finalist for the esteemed CFDA.Vogue Fashion Fund. At this event, I had a chance to chat with Mr. Glemaud, Ambassador Altidore, and various other senshaitianal fashionistas in attendance. Oh and I ate pate and griot. Life was good!

Saturday Event #1 {Under Armour x Maketto}

Sports is life. Sportswear is life so it was only fitting Jermaine and I attend the unveiling of Under Armour’s newest collection, Unstoppable. Let me preface that I love Under Armour. They are always fashion forward and risky in my opinion and I love that. It also helps that they are located in one of my favorite cities, Baltimore. Both J and I fell in love with this collection and are going to have to get this sneaker. This event was hosted at Maketto, the premiere food and fashion marketplace in DC. It was my first time there and certainly NOT my last. I loved this event the most because of the attendees. It was not the typical blogger scene with the typical DC Blogger clothing. It was funky, fresh and all streetwear!

Saturday Event #2 { Starwood Preferred Guest and Amex event at the National African American Museum}

Dear Lord. This event was my absolute favorite of the week. Why? I got to dress up, hang with my favorite people, and have a private experience at the National African American Museum in DC.  Although I was fortunate enough to have toured the museum prior, I was overjoyed to be able to peruse at a more leisurely pace and take it all in with my love. We were there to have fun but J and I found ourselves weeping at various exhibits. It is incredibly difficult to see how our people were treated solely because of the color of our skin. Wait did I say “were” Well the unfair treatment is still live and well but I digress. This event was VERY well done. DC Muhammad from Tribe Called Quest cranked out the best tunes and the dance floor was packed all night. I however never danced as I took in the museum instead. Thanks for the invite: Ashley

Sunday {FlyBarre x DC Brau}

Not all events are about the glitz and glam. Not everything about me is glitz and glam. I’m proud to be a jack of all trades and fitness is something I have been doing my best to incorporate more in my life.  Being a 4 sport Varsity athlete, I love sports and fitness. But I had paused the working out but now am happy to press play on that aspect of my life. Yesterday DC Brau Brewing Company and the strength training component of FlyWheel joined together for a great event. We worked on being long and lean doing FlyBarre and then got a tour of the local beer brewing company. Pretty much a perfect way to end the week!

    Looked like an amazing week full of amazing events! You looked BOMB as usual. I can’t wait to visit the museum – I will have Kleenex on deck. P.S. I’m slightly coming for J’s +1 spot when I return…I kid I kid.
