DC Rooftop Pools

curvy girl- comme coco

Man oh man. This past weekend in DC sure as heck felt like summer and this young lady right here is grinning from ear to ear! The 90 degree humid air begged for lounging at a rooftop pool and thank goodness DC has a plethora to choose from! On Saturday local designer, Maria-Alejandra Avellaneda of Mars Vida launched her new swimwear line and all the dc fashionistas and “nistos” were there to shop, soak up the sun and celebrate the beauty of these suits. I made the trip down 95 with my roll dawg, Teena of breakfast for lunch  Fashion for Breakfast and we met up with the 3rd piece to our group, owner of DC’s best vintage shop, Kizzy! The 3 of us together is always a guaranteed great time and to add to a great Saturday morning, fellow Baltimoreans Raven and Deanna came to splish splash at the Embassy Row Hotel pool with us. No joke, I am comtemplating getting a membership to this pool! Not only is it walking distance to my job but it was everything and more in ambiance, diversity of people and decor. I am low-key obsessed!

While I was editing these pics, I realized that I am far “thicker” than I ever thought I was. I guess I have a vanity mirror permanently in my head that does not showcase my cellulite or back rolls but these pics of me in my suit perfectly captured all my imperfections. Instead of trying to airbrush or “fix” them, I have decided to just let it all out in all its glory. I may not be completely happy with my shape at the present moment, I also know that I am doing nothing to change it. The only cardio I seem to get lately is shopping and the only strengthening routine involves lifting my fork to my mouth. Ahhhh I love to eat!

We have the opportunity to leave work at 1pm every single Friday during the summer season, no questions asked. So last Friday, I left work and scampered over to Georgetown to do a little window shopping… oh ok I lie, to do some shopping and fell in love with these high waisted side slit bathing suit bottoms from Forever 21. I rarely wear matching suits so I knew I would have a top to pair them with once I got home. I am all in all pretty pleased with how this worked out!

I do not have anything against photo-shopping or image alterations, I just chose not to. I want everyone to be proud of whatever shape they are in at this precise moment and not stress over the superficial. As long as you are healthy, who cares what little bumps and lumps you may have… we are all BEAUTIFUL!!!! cute summer hairstyles- comme cocomars vida pool party- comme coco mars vida swimwear launch- comme coco vintage and retro- comme coco street art dc - comme coco rooftop pool dc - comme coco pink bikini - comme cocobeautiful black women dc- commecoco

Hi Jen, I’ve been coming to your blog for a couple of years now but never commented buy today I couldn’t help it. I just wanted to say thank you for this post. I’ve suffered with eating disorders and poor body image since about 12 years old (I’m 31 now). You have no idea how your transparency and willingness to be you, at this present moment, has inspired me. You being comfortable in your skin helps me to be comfortable in mine. So I just wanted to say thank you.

I love this post, I work in DC and I’ve never been to any of the roof top pools. I’m clearly not hanging out with the cool kids. I love your swimsuit, the colors were nice and vibrant and the styles were cute and flattering on your body type. We all have flaws but like you I embrace mine as well. #BLMGIRLS

Jen you and the crew look fab! YOLO-perfection is never attainable. We women should not be fooled by IG and these other social media websites.
