Distressed Denim

I’m a denim girl.

Jackets. Skirts. Dresses. Coats. Studded. Distressed. You could say next to leather its my favorite material.

Finding jeans to fit my waist and my thundalicious thighs can be such a struggle. Lately though, I have been finding that thrifted men’s jeans work for my shape and I have been buying them in bulk. I love that they are high waisted, a perfect summer hue and well the heavy distressing helps add some edge to them. I tend to do most of my thrift store shopping at the Savers in Owings Mills or the Collins Avenue Thrift in Baltimore. Between those two, I am able to find everything I need. When I go thrifting, I always head to books first, then men’s jeans and blazers (their blazers fit me way better as well), plaid shirts (because Im obsessed with them around my waist or for layering in the cooler months), lastly I head to the women’s section for printed dresses.

I have been wanting to try a headwrap ever since I saw my hair stylist Alisa rock a leopard print one a few months back. I never knew how easy it was to put on and since then I have added colorful scarves to my thrift store shopping list. It’s instant chic with a touch of the Motherland!

While walking to brunch on my first day in New York City, I spotted this “theatre” type stage in Jackie Robinson Park and I knew I wanted it to be the background for this outfit. Like my clothing, I am taking my photography in another direction. I love minimalism with an edge and I love simplicity. Maybe its my old age (ha) but I am seeing the world through a very different lens. I used to be such a 18-55mm girl but now my vision is of a prime 50mm 1.4 one lol.

I am fully shooting in manual mode now. Although I cannot take my own pics anymore (too much running around), I am teaching those who snap my outfit posts how to manually focus (the 50mm 1.8 has so many auto focus issues) and to shoot from different perspectives. But really, Monroe has a very similar eye as me so there was not much teaching! Im thankful for these awesome pics that she was able to snap!

Jen! You’re a genius! Men’s jeans! I have a more boyish frame and women’s jeans are such a hit-or-miss. I can’t wait to go thrifting this weekend.

Hahahah ohhhh genius. That sounds so cool lol. But yeah they are my go to now! You really have to find different styles though. I cannot do straight but I love the relaxed fit men’s jeans.
