Now that I have decided to be more proactive in my quest to be recognized as a top washington dc blogger, that means that I am back on the circuit. What’s the circuit you ask? Well attending events after work and making sure to network. Sometimes it is difficult to dress for work when I know I have an event later that night because often I do not want to stand out TOO much at my pretty unstylish job or be uncomfy while at work.
As I have gotten older, my willingness to lug an extra bag on my commute in the morning is pretty much gone so I have to plan ahead and make sure that whatever I wear to work will take from work to drinks easily.
Last Wednesday, South Moon Under opened up a new store in Georgetown and I HAD to be there. One because of the reason I stated above but also because I am obsessed with the brand. They have the cutest pieces that totally vibe with my inner wanna be beach babe. Check them out and tell me what you think.
Because the weather was pretty amazing for February, I decided to wear a lightweight summer dress and use my favorite cold weather piece to layer with it. You know my love of turtlenecks runs deep and I instantly reached for my grey one to match this Target blue and white linen dress from last summer.
For Work
I chose to wear it with low heeled metallic ankle boots and a simple necklace.
For Drinks
I ditched the metallic boots for sheer socks and my silver block heel pumps from a recent thrift adventure.
But honestly the socks started to make me feel a certain way and I changed out of them completely. I always stress, dressing for your body type and the white socks cut my legs off in a way that made them look stocky. We. Do. Not. Want. Short. Legs. lol So the socks had to go!
To elevate my look for the store opening, I also added my Virle Cole sequin belt bag and silver metallic moto jacket from Forever 21. My look was pretty monochromatic in a Jen Jean-Pierre kind of way and I felt ready to take on the opening.
Here are my quick tips for going for dressing to go from work to drinks
- Where something comfortable to work so that you are still happy rocking it for drinks later
- Swapping out footwear is an easy way to change up your look. Choose a statement shoe for night time.
- Swap out a big tote or work type bag for something smaller. Cross bodies and belt bags are great!
- Change jewelry to elevate your look. Studs for work and big hoops or tassel earrings for play.
- Wear your hair up for work and then let it loose for drinks. If hair is short, don a hat at night to switch up your look.
