Homie the Clown….

Don’t even laugh because I fricken adore these palazzo pants that I found at a thrift store in Virginia. I have been dying to wear them and even though they may look a little “mardi gras” ish… I will rock em till they die. I believe they were handmade and probably for a luau or a clown party but hey… I’ll be that.. a CLOWN but I will be a cute clown… bet that πŸ™‚
This heat is killing me so I couldnt take pics outside.. its 96 right now with a humidity of “jen’s gonna have clown hair to go with those pants” Homie don’t play that! πŸ™‚

Do any of you have that one item in your closet that is so unconventional but it makes you smile when you see it? If so… share… tell me all about it!!!!

    Hey jennifer,
In response to your tweet/invitation to check out your blog, I obliged and you’re quite a fashionista! Hope your body heals quickly!

While in the midst of checking out your twitter/blog, I noticed a particular twitter conversation you had about black and white in fashion blogs. I disagree.

I do not think there is a quality difference or even a perceived quality difference based on black/white/any color of the blogger. Take WhereDidUGetThat, Red Carpet Fashion Awards (got photographed in Vogue for being a fashion blogger), or Budget Chic. They all have immensely popular blogs within their niche, have very many white readers, AND are black. I personally follow these blogs and I don’t think “hey, I’m following a black person’s blog” the same way I don’t think “hey, I’m watching a black person’s movie” starring Will Smith or “hey we have a black president”…I tend to just think of Will Smith based on his talents or Obama based on where he stands in issues.

There is no such black/white barrier to blogging…I actually hate making the race issue in general a black and white one (as there are other races) like everyone else seems to. If there is more black readers on a black blogger’s blog, it is more out of positive things…the fact that they can relate to this person because they have similarities in skintone (which matters in what colors to wear), hair texture, culture, etc. A lot of the famous fashion bloggers are NOT white: Rumi/fashiontoast, Aimee/songofstyle, and many others are Asian; Karla(Karlascloset) is half South American half Mexican, and I can list many others that aren’t white.

I think it’s more a matter of personal taste/preference, budget range and etc. that dictates what blogs people read.

I know this seems like an unnecessarily long rant or whatever, but as a victim of racism growing up, I feel like racism is still here only because we keep trying to make things too politically correct and keep reminding ourselves what race someone is, online or offline, rather than just another pretty fashion blog to shallowly “ooh and aaah” over.

I also am typing this hoping you would not take it as criticism or any feelings of negativity. I merely wanted to provide another perspective for you to think about before categorizing what trends you see in the blogosphere as a race issue.

Keep on blogging, and you will find your unique audience. πŸ™‚

Hey Diya- Thank you so much for taking the time to write and also sharing your views. It was not my intention to make it a race issue at all. I was just speaking on something I have noticed since I am an avid reader of blogs. I have had to delete certain comments on my blog that have been racist or prejudice. Stating things like… your style is cheap bc you are black etc etc. It just got me thinking and looking at other big blogs and seeing that alot of people stay within their comfort limits. I agree with much of what you said but I hope you didnt feel as if that was my intention in any way, shape or form. I am sorry that you have been a victim of racism. I love your blog and also wish you the best. You are an inspiration and I appreciate the time you took to write.
