I survived another NYFW.
Well here I am lying. I survived a super fun time in New York with Monroe.
Yup. That sounds like a more accurate description of my weekend in Gotham. Because well, I attended ONE show. I had 11 invites and went to ONE. Fashion week is losing its zest for me. Oh wait, I digress…. attending a milion shows is losing its zest for me. I would much rather cover backstage, attend events and lounges, press dinners and tour the city. So that is what I did!
On Friday morning, I hopped on the Bolt Bus headed north and went straight to Monroe’s place in Harlem. I had no shows till later in the evening so taking outfit pics and eating were on the agenda. My favorite place to grab a bite when I get to Harlem is Il Caffe Latte. I have no words to describe how amazing their Huevos Rancheros is and I was oh so disappointed when I found out it was only a weekend special! But tried the Penne Vodka and was pleased!
This was the second outfit that we shot and although simple, I absolutely adore it. Because of the floral, soft look, I wanted to shoot somewhere a little “rougher looking”. Photography has been pretty big for me and I have been doing my best to not only learn more by reading on the technical aspects but also observing others and just getting out there and shooting. I guess I am doing an ok job because Monroe hired me to be her photographer for NYFW and I am really loving the direction we went with her recent pics! They are a must see if I do say so myself: Fashion Steele NYC!
Whenever I plan an outfit, I also plan how I want the pictures to come out. I tend to be very posey in most of my pictures but because of the soft material of this kimono, I wanted lots of movement to showcase the fluidity. Poor Monroe had to put up with me on this one because I needed to get it just right. I guess I am turning into an artist of some sort because I must capture the idea I have in my head!

If you follow my Facebook page, you definitely saw some hilarious bloopers from this particular shoot. One particular instance, Monroe and I laughed hysterically for at least 3 minutes. So much so, that we nearly peed our pants. These are the small reasons I love photography so much. While the image of what I did is forever burned in our heads, it is also phenomenal that we were able to capture it on camera as well!
Kimono: eBay {Option 1, Option 2} | Denim Shorts: Levi’s DIY | Sandals: Schutz | White Tank: H&M | Sunglasses: H&M
Love love love these photos! Your photography and shoots are definitely evolving. Only way to go from here is UP! <33
Love the Kimono/Shorts combo!!! Glad you had fun! The shows can be exhausting and a lot of build up only to be underwhelmed, so I know the feeling!
Cute outfit. I haven’t been back to NYFW in a long while. I keep saying I am going to go back. Maybe? #BLMGirl
I like ALL, kimono, high heels and shoots!

Congrats and happy W/end!
Gorgeous!
Yes Jen! I do like the contrast between the flowy floral kimono and the hard industrial metal backgrounds. It makes the already lovely outfit pop out so much more that it would have on a plain backdrop. Good eye!
xx
Definitely love the direction that you’re taking style photography, I’ve been experiencing with some myself. I love the contrast of the soft look of the kimono against the rough background. Love it
