Ok. If you follow me on Instagram then you know I have been posting a lot of self-portraits while on quarantine. I’m always asked about the gear I use so here is my must haves for self portraits while home.
Before we get with my list of the must haves for self portaits while home, I want to emphasize the importance of having fun while taking them. Also, use props, experiment with poses, use different rooms and try different angles. Have fun and take a bajillion photos because you never know what’s going to come out like straight fire!

Must Haves for Self Portraits
TRIPOD
or a book case or a chair or anything you can prop your phone or camera on for stability. I personally go with the tripod because it is easy but I am known for jerryrigging a tripod if I need to get the shot. I am a by all means necessary type shot taker.
The tripod I use for my cell phone is a cheapie that I purchased at Target years ago. I like it because it is super light and compact and when vlogging, can be used as a hand held.

REMOTE
Yes, you can set the self timer on your phone or camera and that works perfectly fine BUT I am all about efficiency and this remote allows me to be efficient. When shooting with my iphone, this is what I use. When shooting with my dslr, I use my phone and the canon connect app.
PHONE HOLDER FOR TRIPOD
Im obsessed with this phone holder because it fits any tripod and allows you to shoot landscape or portrait. I also love that it fits a variety of phones. The phone holder tripod pieces that have the springy mechanism are just too much work for me so this is perfect.
SD Card Reader
This is more for iphone users. I don’t use this as much because I just use wifi to send images from my canon to my phone but in times of no wifi or if I want the RAW files, I will use this. It is good to have in your arsenal, just in case 🙂

Just using these 3 must haves for self portraits and my phone or DSLR, I was able to capture these photos:
