There are two questions most new bloggers always ask me: how do I get my following to grow and how do I get invited to events?
Without a doubt those are the questions I am asked the very most in my DMs and emails from new bloggers.
So I decided to start a small series on the blog all about little tips and tricks for newer bloggers.
Let me start this off by saying, I am still growing as a blogger. I have been blogging regularly since 2011 and it was always a creative outlet until some money came in and I realized this could be extra income. In the spirit of transparency, I do not make much money blogging but I know why. My effort and my ability to be my own cheerleader is severely lacking.
But back to you.
Today I want to focus on Events. How do you get invited to Events as a lesser known Blogger
PR firms have a lot going on and typically do not have the bandwidth to do hours and hours of research to comb the internet for all bloggers in a particular area. They typically go with whomever they have worked with prior, who shows up on google search first, and who they already follow. Because most PR gals assigned to influencer marketing are young.
So here are some tips for getting invited to events.
- Don’t wait for them to find you, just email. A simple introduction email about yourself and your blog topic and asking to be included in their event lists goes a long way. Make the email short and sweet because again PR companies have ALOT going on.
- Ask your friends who do get invited to possibly take you as a plus one. If you get this opportunity, this is your chance to network. See my post on networking here. Talk to as many as possible and be confident in telling what you do. After the event, write a blog post about it or mention it favorably on your social media and thank the PR firms responsible for logistics.
- Scour eventbrite for Events. A lot of events are listed there and it is easy to RSVP. Search for fashion events or whatever your topic is. Again, after the event do a recap. If you write a full blog post, once published, send an email to the PR firms with the Link.
Remember the most important thing in this blogging game is that the work comes first. You must put in the work always. There are MANY who have grown because of luck but most have to put in loads of effort.
Hope you were able to find this useful and please stay tuned for the next part of this series where I’ll post some tips to growing your followers.
I will also have a giveaway soon and this will ONLY be posted in my newsletter. If you have not subscribed, I highly suggest doing so HERE.
p.s. All photos pictured are from the CRWN magazine event in DC last week. This event was just amazing and chock full of empowering talks for Black Women. I was truly honored to be invited and even more so GEEKED to have taken over their IG stories. Did you guys see it?
If you missed the announcement, it’s probably because you don’t follow me on TWITTER. Change that now π
