New Summer Look: Crochet Boho Locs

I went 5 months without a new hairstyle. For me, that is really long. For my new summer look, I decided to go with crochet boho locs and of course, my hairstylist, Alisa of Cosmo Crush did the install. I ONLY go to her for my hair needs because she knows my hair, she knows what she is doing, she doesn’t overcharge, and she is professional as all heck.

I do highly suggest her, if you are interested in a fun summer look or for regular hair maintenance! These crochet boho locs took her about 1.5 hours to do. Yup, the braiding, and the crocheting. My appointment also consisted of a deep condition and a trim because it had been 5 months since her skilled hands touched my head lol. I did not count those in the 1.5 hours for reference.

During the summer, most people go for individual or even knotless braids. While I love those styles, I do not have the energy to sit in a chair for longer than 2 hours. My patience or lack of it does not allow it. The minute I realized that you can achieve nearly the same result with crochet styles, it was over! If individual braids are your thing, get them OR try crochet boho locs, braids, or twists but ask your stylist to make the perimeter of your individuals. It’s a cheat to get the look without sitting FOR-EVER!

To be honest, crochet boho locs wasnt my first choice. I have done them before and really wanted to try out passion twists. BUT… the beauty supply store did not have them in waist length and well, my preffered length won. I chose whatever had a 30-inch length and that is how I ended up with these crochet boho locs. Why are they called boho locs? Because the ends are loose and wavy. At least that is what I assume hahahh.

Behind the Photos

When I received these pink glitter trousers from Femme Luxe Finery, I knew I wanted to shoot them in a different way. One day I was on instagram and saw the “sheet outside photoshoots” and boom, I knew that was my inspiration. This sheet is actually Teags’ fave from her Nana’s house but since it was dirty from her spit up and her teether crackers, it was the perfect time to use it outside.

Maryland experienced some CRAZY thunderstorms the night before so the ground was really wet and I could not go barefoot. Hence the Adidas slides you can often see in the shots. Also with all the dampness came TONS of bugs. I don’t do bugs lol. We were able to get this whole shoot done in 12 minutes. While the poses are not my fave (I had other ideas), I love the color play and the angles that Jermaine shot these in.

Editing these are super easy also. I knew I wanted a grainy, moody, and dark vibe. For some, I used the Tezza App’s Mood preset and for the others, I used Lightroom and a preset I created for myself. I also changed the perspective in some of these so I did not look so squatty.
