Shooting with my Sister

This past weekend, after tons and tons of begging on my part, my sister came to visit from Michigan and I was on cloud 9. My sister is my absolute very best friend in the world and my favorite co-model for photoshoots. On Friday while perusing Instagram, I saw a bomb photo by my other fave sister duo, The Yusufs and instantly declared: “Claud, we are recreating this”. So with Jermaine’s help, I got to shoot with my sister and celebrate The Yusufs’ creativity our own way.

Since the inception of this blog, community over competition has been the motto. It is the soul of who I am and it is the backbone of this blog. I truly believe that if we are not community driven, we will fail. This is why I have always made it my mission to celebrate and support my fellow Black women creatives in as many ways as I can. I love shooting with other Black women and I love pinning their images because even Pinterest has a prejudice problem. Oh! For dope Black and Brown-style inspiration here is my board with just that.

Shooting with my sister

What I love the most about shooting with my sister is her “let’s do it” approach to whatever silly thing I throw her way. Claud is someone who lives life to its absolute fullest and does not let much get her down. She is open to trying out new things and even if I am an absolute drill sergeant, she has a big ole smile and enjoys just shooting together. I learn so much from every single interaction and I do feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have her as my sis sis.

Picking out our outfits

We had not planned to shoot together and because of this had no outfits planned. She saw this pink Nasty Gal dress hanging in my cloffice and wanted to rock it but I did not have anything to coordinate with it. Literally 25 minutes before shooting, I remembered this tulle skirt that my friend Brandine let me have after shooting her in it and found this satin slip tank I purchased from the thrift store years ago and boom. We coordinated!

Thankful beyond measure always from my husband who is always willing to be the photographer on my last minute photoshoot ideas. For this he took the pics from our kitchen sliding door and looked down at us in the backyard.

So I guess this was a happy family affair!

Speaking of family….. Jermaine is trying to get into the mens fashion influencer space and would love your follow on Instagram. If you feel up to it, please do follow him HERE
