Spontaneity

Spontaneity

“I guess sometimes the greatest memories are made in the most unlikely of places, further proof that spontaneity is more rewarding than a meticulously planned life.”
― J.A. RedmerskiThe Edge of Always

Ahhh spontaneity. Something that is incredibly difficult for a slight OCD control freak like me. Yes, me. The not super tidy chick does in fact suffer from a form of obsessive compulsive disorder. If I get something in my head, it will take over until its completed. I will obsessively think about it and often have it refrain me from doing normal things and then feel compelled to act on it or do whatever that “it” is. Back on a warmer January day, Jermaine and I headed over to Hyattsville to shoot a few looks. We had two already planned and because of earlier preparation, were able to knock them out quickly. As we started driving to go home, Jermaine pointed out the train tracks and said, “now this would be a dope shoot”.

So I put together an outfit from pieces from the previous shoots and Jermaine dug through his truck and found a pair of heels I had left and we took to the train tracks to shoot. I must have asked him a dozen times, “are you sure no trains come this way”. He with his calm demeanor, reassured me every time with the ultimate patience. Until we heard and saw a train coming. And fast.

But it was not on the line we were shooting on so thankfully all was well.

This track shoot is probably one of my most faves of 2018 thus far for several reasons.

Reason #1

Two magical words in the photography world. Golden Hour. That beautiful time when the sun is at the perfect point and no matter what, your photos come out magnificent. Well let me rephrase. You still need to know what you are doing as far as photography but the lighting is at its softest and makes all skin tones look magical. It is so important that I even have an app on my iphone to let me know what time is best to shoot no matter where I am in the world. Yes. It IS that serious.

Reason #2

My outfit was so very me. Distressed jeans meets sheer top meets strappy sandals and a leather moto jacket.

Reason #3

The spontaneity of pulling over on the side of the road, changing in the car, and just shooting because the location spoke to us makes this a favorite photoshoot. Yes, I wrote us. This site is my baby with my baby. We scout locations together, he helps me style my outfits, and he shoots all my photos. This is a team effort and this is one of the first shoots, that I gave up control and allowed him to show me his eye.
