I am a firm believer that every item in your closet should invoke some emotion or remind you of a time in your life or a memorable story. My Jessica Simpson Dany shoes are one those but sunglasses seem to be at the crux of all my favorite fashion memories. I cannot walk into a store and not visit their sunglasses aisle. I could care less if I am at CVS, a Beauty Supply Store, truck stop (they have AWESOME ones), H&M or Forever 21, I am picking up a pair of shades! I love all shapes and sizes but tend to gravitate towards Retro styles the most. I am not a big fan of wraparound types but my boyfriend loves his RoboCop look. Blech! (to each his own right).
Love you baby!!

I remember being about 9-10 years old and spending a ridiculous amount of time in a Sunglass Hut in Dayton, Ohio with my dad picking out a pair of sunnies from him. Why in Dayton? Oh because we were there on a slight family vacation. We stayed at a hotel with a pretty fabo pool and I just remember having SO much fun with my mom, dad and sister. We also went to King’s Island that year and I went on my first rollercoaster… but back to the optical curtains! I can seriously remember all the types he chose and after some time we all decided on a pair of tortoise shell brown Carreras. My dad looked so damn cool in those sunglasses and I just thought he was the most awesome man in the world when he put those bad boys on. (he is still awesome by the way). He still owns them and whenever I visit Florida, I still feel the need to put them on because I love the emotions and story embedded in those frames. They were my dad’s signature, his superman “S” and I will forever link Carrera’s with my beloved father.
My next obsession came in high school in the shape of Oakleys. I am not a skier and didnt partake in many “outdoor” sports but I had an obsession with Oakley sunglasses. I was beyond words excited when my boyfriend at the time presented me with a pair of graphite ones for my birthday. I could not and would not go ANYWHERE without them on my face or used as a headband to push my hair back. I swear I may have even slept with them. They were my “Linus blanket” and I was devastated when I broke them after a year. How you ask? Oh they were perched heandband style on my head and I cracked them getting into my car. Total bummer but Ahhh memories!
A couple of years ago I was watching the film “Book of Eli” and as great as the movie and acting were, I could not take my eyes off of Mila Kunis’ rounded aviators. I loved the way they framed her face and weren’t the typical sharp angles. I have a tendency to watch movies first for the accessories and clothing and then next for the dialogue and plot and “Book of Eli” was no exception. After falling in love with those shades, I began my internet and twitter stalking search for them and alas found out they were Mosley Tribes Raines glasses and I no joke, hopped on the metro and went to my nearest mall (Pentagon City at the time) and just HAD to try them on. For a moment there, I truly felt as bad ass as Mila Kunis’ character. I swear. Those sunnies have power and I will own them soon enough!
Now in my life I just collect sunglasses and find myself buying a new pair a month (sometimes 2x a month depending on the price). I know my face and what seems to work with it so I find myself purchasing them online. Recently while trolling the internet, I came across Glasses.com and almost lost my mind searching their selection! I am a very “frugal frannie” type of girl and I was able to find super brand name popular styles at an affordable price so that was an added bonus for me. For Summer of 2013, my focus is going to be on Retro shades and of course my beloved Aviator styles with a splash of exagerrated frames. I am currently scoping out a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer’s and these amazing Chloe “bug eye” round glasses. I know that everyone has the wayfarers but to me there is a reason for it… they just add an element of cool to any outfit!
Truly an investment piece!
Below you will find a fun collage of all my sunglass styles through the years and also a few of my favorite selections from my new favorite place to cop the perfect sunnies.
So what do you call sunglasses? Are they sunnies? Shades? Eye Curtains? Optical Coverings?
