When it comes to shopping– nothing gets me more excited than thrift stores.
Why I love thrift stores and thrift shopping
It is all about the thrill of the hunt. I tend to thrift shop when I am looking for something in particular but nothing specific. Did I confuse you yet?
Basically, I like to thrift shop when I know I want silky dresses or when I want an oversized blazer or when I’m in search for men’s jeans to turn into the perfect denim cutoffs. I try to keep it general and I like to be open to finding new treasures at the thrift store.
My love of thrift stores and thrift shopping also stems from wanting items that others do not have. Yes, I am a fashion and style blogger but nothing irks me more than seeing everyone rocking the same same from Zara. More often than not, I love the item too but my want to be original forces me not to purchase said item.
Instead I will run over to my favorite thrift stores near me and find something similar that I can style up to showcase my personality.
Aside from the shopping part of it, my friend Janell has me really being more cognizant of “fast fashion” and its negative effects on the Earth and people. But I plan on interviewing her on my youtube channel soon and will let her speak on all of this.
My favorite items to buy at the thrift store
While I touched on it briefly, my favorite items to buy at the thrift store vary but I almost always browse certain areas depending on the season.
During the spring/summer season I am all about looking for “old grandma” type silky midi dresses, jeans to DIY into cut-offs, and band t-shirts that I can distress and wear to music festivals. In the Fall and Winter, the search at my favorite thrift stores changes and I am on the hunt for men’s blazers– I have always liked them oversized so I can belt at the waist, real leather skirts, trench and wool winter coats and sweaters, especially Ralph Lauren Polo ones.
The best thrift stores near me in Maryland
When I first moved to the DC area, the only thrift stores I ever frequented were in Virginia. In Alexandria alone there are like 5 thrift stores within a 10 mile radius of each other so it felt like heaven. Now that I live in Maryland and am always thrifting, I have a great handle on the best thrift stores in Maryland.

Great post – I love thrifting as well! I decided to switch to thrift shopping to lower my impact on the planet, and it has been such an enjoyable thing to do. It looks like you have a nice list of places to go; unfortunately, I don’t have a Value Village near me… But the Salvation Army in my city is pretty good so I can’t complain!

I love thrifting, I love the fashion I see in stores and from time to time I will purchase them but what I love even more is creating my own style with inspiration from fashion finds in stores! Love the round up, these are some of my faves too! I have to add Collins to my list and visit there soon!
