The Shoe Dazzle Plaid Dress

Yesterday, I was sitting on my couch with J and he was being his annoyingly cute self tickling me and I had my iPhone out, recording him on Insta-story when I realized the light. It was fantastic! As a photographer, I always chase the light so…. I look up at him with “doe eyes” or something close and ask him if we can go outside and shoot.

Like the amazingly supportive man he is, a “yes” came out and I rushed upstairs to grab new merchandise from JustFab/ ShoeDazzle that I was tasked to shoot as part of their Stiletto Society program. I love plaid. Like love plaid. It’s up there with wide leg pants, leather and camo print. And lately I’m really diggin pink and a flare dress is a must for my figure so in all ways possible this dress is a win for me.

But it isn’t.

Something about it was super off when I put it on. The arms are incredibly tight yet the waist pretty loose. There wasn’t much I could do about the arms but the waist oh the waist was gonna get a belt. I grabbed my studded one, threw on my go to ShoeDazzle strapped heels, swiped some dark purple lipstick and we were out the door.

Initially I paired it with my rose gold mirrored glasses but J said, hey “try these instead” and handed me my new I-Wear by Raqui glasses and they worked perfectly!! We really are a great team and am so incredibly happy that he came into my life!

Because this was very impromptu, we had not a single shoot location in mind. As is customary with most of my shoots, I gravitate towards gritty over pretty. So we drove about 5 minutes down Hampton park Blvd and stopped at the Home Depot and took some shots. We weren’t totally feeling those so we kept it moving.

Because the dress had a loud print, I thought something solid would work. There were a bunch of warehouses with solid doors and we pulled into one. Although there were still people milling around, we found a corner location hidden by a truck and the darkness drew me in.

I love love love shooting with J because he knows my style and vibe. While I still ask him to change a few things based on my vision, he always pleasantly surprises me with how he captures the outfits. Ahhhh he is the best in more ways than one.

Enjoy the photos everyone and don’t forget to check out my post on my favorite iPhone photography trick!

Oh and I am starting to really LOVE and embrace my hair. These curls are way too fun. I think my favorite part is washing it and seeing the curls but then adding some Eco Styler gel (thanks Teena) and watching them transform and really curl! This is just too fun!!!!
