The Smile Project DC Carnival

Smile!

You always hear it either before taking a photo or in my case when walking around the city and men want to get my attention with the infamous “Smile”. Last weekend I meandered over to the Smile Project DC Carnival after hearing about it from my friend Yodit. She always knows the best and most fun events in DC so I knew this would be something interesting to do in the Nation’s Capital.

Here is a little history behind this awesome event.

THE WHY BEHIND “THE SMILE PROJECT”

The important mission of the Smile Carnival is underscored by recent studies which show that smiling is as important to our physical and mental health as getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising. In fact, smiling has been found to reduce stress, increase health, and help lower blood pressure. Yet, somewhere between childhood and adulthood, many of us stop playing and exchange play for work and responsibilities.

How can I not want to support that?

In the summer months, I try my best to attend as many events in DC as possible. I get so many emailed to me but I find that alot of the super fun and different ones can be found on eventbrite.

Back to the carnival though. It was so cool to be on a carnival ground. It brought me back to the days of the end of the summer carnival that my elementary school held annually. There is just something that instantly makes you smile when seeing bright colored buildings, the delicious smell of funnel cake, and the pinging sounds of carnival games. Not to mention the screams of fear and joy from carnival ride patrons.

It was even more cool to spend the day with some of my favorite people. Hannah, the beau and my sister, Claudia. I am desperately trying to get her to move closer because I just need more and more of her physically in my life. I love that girl. OH SO MUCH!

For the day, I wanted to be casual, summery and yet still a little edgy to show off my personality. Remember that is so important to me. What you wear should always show the world who you are and what your attitude is lol.

I achieved this by wearing my new ShoeDazzle skirt and a diy white top. For those who asked me about this shirt on instagram, all I did was cut a slit into the middle of the shirt and then tied it to be a key hole style. Oh and I wore this a few years ago too. View it here!

I am wearing a size XL and its about 1.5 inches too large in the waist for me. My waist is a 31-32 for reference.
