Why I traveled to Houston
2023 is my year of intentionality and community. Because many of my family, community, and friends are not in Florida, I plan on doing tons of traveling. First up, Houston to visit my uncle and cousins for my baby cousin’s dedication/christening! Keep reading to see what I did, who I saw, what we wore and more.
What I packed and bought for Houston
I am currently in a wardrobe refresh and purging a lot from my closet. One thing I did not want to do is solely buy things JUST for this trip. I wanted items that would mesh well with my current wardrobe and/or things I really needed.
Because we were traveling with a VERY active toddler, I knew I needed something to help her walk around without me having to carry her or deal with the incessant whining from NOT carrying her. Teagan is pretty big and strollers just don’t do it for her any longer so I did some research and found ride-on suitcases on Amazon. The one I initially wanted would not arrive on time so I bought a similar one and will be reviewing it soon on my youtube channel.

Travel Essentials
Traveling with toddlers means you have all of your belongings AND theirs so I needed something with lots of room to put all of our need to have on the plane items. This travel backpack fit all of my items including, iPad, a canon camera and two lenses, 4 pairs of sunglasses IN the case, my makeup bag, and all of Teagan’s bottles and snacks, and never felt like it was STUFFED. The car seat backpack is also a MUST for those who want to protect their car seat and be able to carry it easily before checking.
I bought this dress specifically for the baby dedication.
Where I ate in Houston
My cousins, Dan and Kaoru, are the Houston “it” couple in the sense they know everyone, everyone knows them and they have the inside scoop on all the great places to eat and shop. At the last minute, we decided to go out for brunch, and they took us to Warwick in uptown Houston not far from the Galleria. This Black-owned restaurant definitely gets a thumbs up from me in all ways. The ambiance is completely my vibe (think uppity but not snobby Black folk), and the food is/was to die for delicious. Jermaine and Dan tried the oxtail hash which is a generous helping of oxtail over eggs however you want them and potatoes. The oxtail was FALL off the bone and flavorful. I ordered and loved the lobster benedict and would without a doubt get it again. It’s fried lobster not steamed and it adds the perfect crunch to the meal. Kaoru (Kay) swears by the chicken and waffles and they looked phenomenal too. We definitely toasted it up with pineapple mimosas because orange juice and I do not get along and since we were all full from our entrees, we skipped dessert although they had some tempting choices on the menu. If you stop by maybe just maybe you will see my cousins there!
