Tartans vs. Plaids:
A Tartan is associated with a Scottish Clan and it signifies that family’s clan colors.
Plaid: More of a US/English fabric that isnt always geometric like a Tartan. Plaids were worn by the Highlanders as kilts or cloaks and plaids are more so a type of clothing rather than a fabric in the Scottish history.
I’m clearly mad for plaid (I’m so american) and it does not take the fashion powers that be to tell me its haute! But I am pretty excited to see all the items in the stores in plaid and tartan and cannot wait to build a casual and work wardrobe around one of my favorite prints. From jackets to pumps to hats, I will be decked out in squares this Fall/Winter 2013-2014.
