Wearing Prints to Work

photography by Gregory “Boobie” Proctor

Karla Deras of Karla’s Closet recently did a post about her style choices and transitioning from more edgy looks to an understated and demure way of dressing. It’s funny but that post really spoke to me because I have noticed the same about myself. Although I still love a good experimental avant-garde outfit, I now am more comfortable with myself and my shape that I stick to silhouettes that flatter and accentuate the positive. This is why trends do not always work for me. I have been blessed with an athletic figure which by definition means I lack hips, have a straight waist and typically have broader shoulders. Fantastic on the football field but definitely not a star on the street style runway of life. Because of this, I must do all that I can to create an hourglass shape via clothing. This is where belts and skater fit dresses come to play. I found this particular printed frock on a thrifting adventure and it still had the tags on! Lo and behold, its from BCBG Max Azria, one of my favorite labels and I knew the fashion gods wanted me to have it. And well, ladies and gents, we must always respect these deities’ wishes!

Hollywood double sided tape is something I carry with me always for any clothing snafoos. It sure came in handy when I realized just how low cut this neckline was designed to be. Certainly not work appropriate!

These Michael Kors booties got a little makeover when I decided to flip them up to emphasize the cut out! I kinda dig it!
