Ok. It is pretty clear that I do almost all of my shopping with online retailers. While I still love a great thrifting session, online is where you will find me window shopping and shopping shopping. My eyes were just recently opened to the fabulousness of ModCloth and I am kinda hooked.
First let’s chat about ModCloth as a whole. This is a site chock full of amazing and up to date styles for EVERY body. Not everybody but EVERY body. You will find a range of sizes from XXS to 4XL and it is all really cute stuff. While the aesthetics are obviously amazing, what really draws me to them is their celebration of body positivity and inclusivity. Even the models are all different sizes and of course I am waiting for the day they call me up to model for them! (fingers and toes crossed)
But this female empowerment and inclusivity celebration is why I believe EVERYONE should shop with them. Put your money where your mouth is and please support those who support us all.
While perusing ModCloth, I decided to think about Fall. What is one item I wanted in my wardrobe that I could focus my search on? I instantly thought of WIDE LEG PANTS! I searched wide leg pants and BOOM- a plethora popped up and I decided on a pair of business professional (ish) high waist wide leg ones. You will see those bad boys in another post!
Since summer is almost over (YAY!!), I wanted to showcase this pineapple top. I rarely if ever jump on trend bandwagons and well, pineapples seem to be the fruit apparel of choice lately but this top screamed at me. It was simple yet had personality so I got it. Please read: THIS TOP is on MAJOR SALE on ModCloth and selling out QUICKLY! Hurry and purchase if you want it. I’m wearing a size XL.
Shooting Process
I am trying to speak more on how J and I shoot our photos and determine locations. Initially we wanted to head over to The Mall at PG Plaza and do some lifestyle shooting outside and inside the mall. They have added new retailers and revamped it so wanted to show something locally cool but because of a time constraint we headed over to National Harbor instead.
I knew that I wanted something colorful in the background but I also wanted to showcase the Capital Wheel. It was my idea to shoot near the wheel and have it faintly in the background and J decided that the reddish orange decor of Fiorella’s would perfectly suit the outfit.
We used a 70-200mm 2.8 lens to shoot these to get the right amount of depth of field and I’m really pleased with how they turned out. (Thanks for letting me steal your lens Ashley!)
Typically we wait till about 6:30pm to shoot but we went out around 2pm instead because we had later commitments (check out my FACEBOOK page to see what we dressed up as for a 90s party). The sun was beaming so we moved around as it moved.
For post processing, I did some normal things like upped the contrast, vibrance and blacks and for more creative edits, I used some film type presets that I made. I used to be OBSESSED with using Vsco film presets but lately I have been experimenting with creating my own. This is all a learning process and I’m really enjoying it.
Plus working with your love definitely sweetens the experience!
Side note, National Harbor is becoming not only one of my absolute favorite places to shoot, it is also one of my favorite weekend hang out spots. Besides shopping and great restaurants, they have other great family friendly things to offer. There are organized outdoor movie date nights, yoga on the grass and music offerings. Kids can frolic on the “beach” while parents sip vino al fresco. National Harbor offers something for all price points. But I do say, splurge a little on treats and just go budget friendly on the meal. You cannot leave without having something from Savannah Candy. Basically- don’t sleep on Maryland!!! (Oh and my favorite hotel is there too!)
SO what are your thoughts on ModCloth? National Harbor? Our shooting process? Talk to me and I talk back 🙂
Great location… the colors are so full and bright, just like I like them! Can’t wait to join you guys out there!
hahahahah come soon!
I really enjoyed this post. I love seeing women looking absolutely fabulous in the simplest of attires 🙂 Please do continue to share your creative process with choosing locations and camera settings. It surely helps your fellow bloggers 😜 All the best darling 🙂
Hi Edwina! Thank you so much for commenting! Im really happy that you like the photo process that I am sharing and locations. I really want us all to win so I love sharing!
I love making my own presets! I feel like VSCO filters are great, but sometimes they feel more vintage/filmy and don’t give me the high contrast look I’m going for! Dope to see how different photographers use the same program! Great choice on location, love that sign in the background!
OMG I dont think you understand how excited I am that you commented. I admire your work SO much so THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great post! I haven’t been to shoot at the Nationak Harbor yet, but I will have to check it out! And also ModCloth sounds really cool, I’ve heard about them, but never purchased anything so I’ll definitely have to check out their site.
