Bougie: Anything perceived as “upscale” from a blue collar point of view.
Let me say this: I can be a Bougie Black Girl. But more often than not, I am far from it. My “bouginess” only seems to come out when I am in a situation that makes me uncomfortable. Then the “sorority girl” in me rears her ugly greek lettered emblazoned head! Yes, I can be that girl. I don’t make bougie nice. But I see so many chicks who are awesome bougie black girls! Im just not one of the good ones….. (le sigh)
This past weekend I celebrated my birthday a little earlier because my sister was in town from New York City and one of my best friends and fellow bloggers also made the trip to Baltimore to see me. Monroe of Fashion Steele NYC and I just murder photo shoots together. I don’t know what it is but we are just soul sisters when it comes to outfit posts or shoots in general. Whether shooting together or capturing each other’s outfits, we just SLAY! SLAY, I tell you! S-L-A-Y!
My sister even commented just how on point we were on staying synchronized and also giving the camera what we wanted… At. The. Same. Damn. Time.
As you all know I have been collaborating with Tees in the Trap on different ways to remix and style their awesome graphic t-shirts. I knew I just had to shoot Monroe in one of the tees and it only worked out perfectly that I’m obsessed with my morning vanilla latte’s in my A Lil Bougie tumbler from their line and my ‘Professional Edge Snatcher” button was the perfect accoutrement for my button down!
As stated before, I am looking to change the direction of most of my shoots. It is not always easy without a dedicated local photographer but I am truly happy to have Dejeune and the man helping me. I no longer want “just outfit post” pictures but more editorial and telling a story via the image. We had a great idea for this shoot but alas the wind and timing did not allow us to execute it but I truly love how plan B worked out. (This is plan B by the way).
Now that the weather is breaking, I will be shooting all around Baltimore. This particular locale was Penn Station located downtown. On a random note…. I just saw an article by the Baltimore Sun where they used local fashionistas for the styling. It was well done but I was shocked that they did not reach out to any of the uber awesome Baltimore style bloggers in the area. I sure hope that Baltimore catches on like DC did about the success that using bloggers can provide!
Many thanks to the Maull Method for the photography and for putting up with my constant direction lol!
