Hey all-
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I had my first football game and it was sooo much fun to get back on the field. Ah I missed it! As you all know and if you are a new reader of the blog, I am Haitian and very, very, VERY proud of it. I love my people, our culture, our music, our art and our resilience. I can say hands down, no other people have the strength that Haitians do. We can smile and laugh in any situation, even the extremely trying times. With all of that said, it was so nice to read an article in Marie Claire’s September Issue about Donna Karan’s work in Haiti. I love to see these designers recognizing other countries and actually HELPING them also. I was even MORE surprised when I watched her 2012 Spring Show during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and it was dripping with Haitian motifs and inspiration. To add to it, she used the tribal drums to set the tone for the models sashaying on the runway. After reading her quotes from the show, it seems that she was truly affected by the Haitian artisans when creating her accessories and that famous artist Phillipe Dodoar was also influential in her designs. I can say I loved the earthy colors, tribal embellishments and LOVED the fact that Wyclef was in the front row.
Here are some pics from her show and also a video. All pics are from Imaxtree and Trendfashionstyle.org
