Haitians in Fashion

Hey all-
I am a proud Haitian woman.
I love my country, my culture, and my people. I do my very best to help whenever I can and to promote for Haiti in any way possible such as asking the company holding the Style Challenge (vote for me please) that I am in to add my favorite non profit ( Color of Hope) to the list of charities to donate from. I get beyond excited when I meet other Haitians in Fashion or hear about those with my ethnic background doing big things in this hard to pierce industry. The other night I was asked to be the photographer for the Salon Lynne 1 year Anniversary Soiree (pictures to come) and towards the end of the night realized that one of the PR mavens working for Whitney Stringer was in fact a haitian! We immediately hugged and started speaking in French and this warmed my heart and made me forget the intense pain radiating from my feet from standing and capturing memories all night! Its obvious that there is a certain misconception of Haitians and I do my best to shatter all these stereotypes that people have placed on what a Haitian looks like, speaks like or acts like. The one thing that is positively certain is that as a Haitian you are resilient, full of pride and sincerely a hard worker. Here is my small ode to my people who are rockin out in the fashion industry!!!!

What can I say about Azede Jean-Pierre and her beyond belief amazing collections?!?! This young entrepreneur is super stylish herself and creates the most fabulous garments I have ever seen. I am 110% that I want her to make my wedding dress when the time comes! Please take the time to check her out: Azede Jean-Pierre

Next is the oh so bodacious and ultra stylish Shella of the popular DC blog ! This attorney definitely knows how to push the limits with accessories and always looks chic and well put together. She is the queen of doing too much while doing it JUST RIGHT!
When you make the pages of Vogue, you have MADE it in the fashion industry in my opinion. My next featured designer of Haitian descent is Hassan Pierre. There are no words to accurately describe his designs or even him. Please check THIS out to see what I am talking about! WORK!!!
Anyone in the blogger world and well fashion world knows Ms. Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily! Not only is she a phenomenal writer but this young lady knows her fashion! She is of Bahamian and Haitian lineage and  I personally thank Claire for putting my blog on the map and helping me gain the followers that I do have by featuring me on her blog in 2011. Huge thanks  and please continue to be such an inspiration to us all!
Next on the Haitians in Fashion list is Nicole Chapoteau, the accessories editor for InStyle magazine. I recently found out about her via the latest issue of the previously mentioned magazine and was GEEKED to find out she was part Haitian! (Yes I do get that excited about finding more and more haitians doing what I love.) Definitely follow her on Twitter!
Stania Romain is sassy and has incredible style so it is only natural that she be known as Ms. Sassy Style! This VA based blogger has hosted several fabulous events in the DC area and is an up and coming stylist to all women who want to learn how to look chic with a touch of sassafrass!
Last but certainly not least is Haitian fashion designer extraordinaire Dayanne Danier of Bien Abye. I recently attended her fashion show at the NOVA Fashion Week Behind the Scenes event and was just stunned by all the beautiful colors in her collection. I am pretty eager to see what she has next and to learn more about this creative genius please view her latest Interview with me!
It is my goal to continuously give the spotlight to more Haitians in the fashion industry. Please let me know who I am missing and I hope to add them in the next series. Thank you for reading!

Hello Im Killy Vincent Im originally from Port au Prince and I’m very proud to be Haitian. And i do get very excited myself to hear and meet people who are Haitian and also in fashion (which I don’t meet a lot of). I read your article “Haitians in fashion” and I absolutely loved it. I totally agree with you how people put us in a specific stereotype and think of us in a certain way or see us in a certain light and meanwhile they don’t even know what they’re talking about.I’m glad theres people like you sharing the real meaning of what it is to be Haitian! I would love to collaborate with…just check out my fashion blog haitianfashionista.com
