Haitians in Fashion; BtchesxBusiness

Hey all-
The mission of this blog was to get good enough at marketing myself that one day I’d be able to work in PR gaining exposure for emerging brands, artists, and stylists in the fashion industry. It is always a plus when a new designer contacts me about their line and they share my ethnicity because I am a very proud Haitian woman and LOVE to help my people. I mentioned in a previous post that ever since my Haitians in Fashion piece, I have learned about so many Hispaniolans creating fabulous items and Duncan Tima of Btches X Business is no exception. I love graphic T’s, sweatshirts, and tanks and his website is chock full of expressive and high quality garments for any fashionista to find to add to their wardrobe. I am sure many will find the name of the company a little derogatory but there is a method to the madness and it is far from what you may think. As stated on the website:

The meaning of “BtchesxBusiness” isn’t something we came up to disrespect women nor was it something we thought sounded cool or “dope”. In all actuality its something we felt would stir up some emotion in anyone we encountered that at first glance would in turn get them to want to find out the origin of such a bold name. In our society we all know the word “bitch” is frowned upon, so we figure if we could turn that negative into a positive while staying true to our natural mission and inspiring others to strive for a better knowledge and empower your heart (and pocket), then we’ve already won. Hence no “I” in our “Btches”, The word means nothing, its the grind and the message that should mean everything.
So we plan on bringing a positive grind to the people who love fashion and aren’t afraid to show their love for what they’re passionate about and
at the same time inspire some to follow and chase their dreams.
I certainly can’t knock anyone who strives for positivity while making awesome tops! Honestly these are the softest t-shirts I have felt in a long time and I am making it a point to grab the “New Money” Snapback hat. I have really been loving the sporty chic look and this would play nicely with what is already in my arsenal. Duncan recently told me via twitter that there are some new amazing pieces coming soon and if its anything like what he currently has, I will be spending alot of money on BtchesXBusiness! Let me know what you think of the apparel?
